WHAT IS OWEN’S PURPOSE AND METHOD?

PURPOSE: We are a Christian faith based organization dedicated to mentoring, teaching, and encouraging young people in the skills, responsibilities, attitudes, actions, and perspectives they should have to be successful, functional, dependable, productive, and community minded citizens, employees, and family members.

METHOD: We will attempt to build meaningful and instructive relationships with each student through weekly group meals, practical devotions, classroom instruction, shop work, and extracurricular activities. We will use the subject of auto mechanics to help students develop a good understanding of auto operation, components, systems, tools, and procedures and will encourage them to develop a healthy relationship with God and others and to demonstrate this through loving acts of kindness and service.

PHILOSOPHY: You cannot impart what you do not possess. In order for us to pass on essential life skills and spiritual truth properly and with impact we must be growing in our relationship with Christ. We want to be teachable, available, and humble before God and pray for His guidance and help to accomplish the goals he has established for us and recognize only He can change a heart. We want to earn the trust of each student through honesty and consistency and build up their confidence by teaching them a skill. We also want to improve their self esteem by sharing God’s love and truth with them in practical ways.

STEWARDSHIP: Since we are using God’s money and equipment it is important to be wise, conservative, and preventative with what we have or need so that we can make efficient use of our resources. With thanksgiving we should receive or purchase what we need and not develop a need to take or purchase.

LEADERS/MENTORS: We are a team of experienced and caring men who seek to serve others with hearts and hands. We desire to grow in and model a healthy relationship with God, students, and each other and aspire to teach all subjects in a practical manner.

STUDENTS: Must be between the ages of 14 to 28 when starting the program and must meet eligibility requirements and conform to expectations as described below.
